Sebastian Rohrberg Claims Gold in Porec

What name comes to your mind, if you think about German archers? It most certainly will be this one: Sebastian Rohrberg. The two times World Field Champion of 2006 and 2008 and World Indoor Champion of 2007 did it again! This time, it is a gold medal in the European Indoor Championships held in Porec, Croatia that he won just an hour ago. Even though he had already claimed gold three times in World Championships, it’s his first European title. In the gold final match he defeated Michele Frangilli (ITA) with an advantage of one point 117:116. Congratulations!

The other Individual European Indoor Champions are Natalia Valeeva (ITA), Sergio Pagni (ITA) and Anna Stanieczek (POL).

Indoor World Archery Challenge 2010

The European Indoor Archery Tournament in Nîmes (France) and the NFAA World Archery Festival in Las Vegas (USA) are two big private tournaments with a high level of competing archers. 9252km is the shortest distance between the two cities Nîmes and Vegas. Travelling with the speed of sound still takes 7 1/2 hours going from one city to another and by that, you will fly over one quarter of the circumference of the earth. So what? Nîmes and Vegas just got together this year and became one tournament, the Indoor World Archery Challenge.

Dietmar Trillus (CAN) won the prestigious compound division in Las Vegas and cashed in 25,000$ (which is more than for winning the worldcup final). Though, the winner of the Archery Challenge 2010 was Braden Gellenthien (USA) who ranked 2nd and 4th in Nimes and Vegas. The other winners of the World Archer Challenge were Gladys Willems (Belgium, Women Compound), Brady Ellison (USA – Men Recurve) and Brandi Mantha (USA – Women Recurve).

Power in Numbers

Power in Numbers – If you google that phrase, wikipedia will teach you that it is the name of the third album of the alternative hip-hop group “Jurassic 5″. Seriously, this has nothing to do with archery, but this album title leapt into my mind when I thought about today’s blog post. Because basically, it is about numbers.

Why that? Yesterday, I published pictures of the 2nd leg of the European Junior Cup 2009 held in Sarzana, Italy. Mr. Riccardo Cafagno, president of the Archery Club of Sarzana gave me permission after a short request and made me able to provide these pictures even after the original event-driven website www.archeryjuniorcup-sarzana2009.com will be closed.

With that, there are now more than 30,000 pictures online covering an enormous amount of 60 different international competitions.

But this is not the only threshold that has been crossed lately. A few days ago, archeryimages had it’s 100,000th visitor. This is nice to see and it’s good that this website seems to be helpful or interesting for a lot of people. If you are still with me, these data seem not to be boring enough. So here is more:

The 30,000 pictures are organized in 400 categories in the gallery and have been viewed 1,3 million times by now. This month I already had visitors from more than 40 countries, including Trinidad & Tobago, the Seychelles, Saudi Arabia and Singapore. The most watched pictures in the gallery are those of the arrows hitting a waterfilled balloon, which have been watched 18,000 times as I wrote last week. The oldest pictures are from 1991, the newest ones from September 2009.

So, what to say? It is nice to see this website grow and I like to carry on with it. I got a lot of different feedback in the past and I am always happy about it. You are always invited to give me your opinion about this site, to complain or say what else you have to say. I am still happy about people giving me a note if they are able to provide pictures that are missing in the ai gallery. For example, photos of the Olympic Games 2000 in Sydney and the Games before are missing to this day although they definitely would be interesting.

I am currently developing some new fancy features for archeryimages that I can hopefully present you within the next weeks, but if you have ideas, feel free to let me know.

Hm… and what is the conclusion of this post? I am not sure, but I guess it simply is: Stay tuned!

EC 2007 Field in Croatia and a new threshold crossed.

Thanks to fieldarcher.org, I am able to present you a bunch of pictures of the European Championships 2007 Field Archery in Bjelovar, Croatia. I started to publish some hundred pictures today and will resume tomorrow to bring up all of the 1,500 pictures I got.

At this point, I think I have to say how much I appreciate the fieldarcher.org-crew’s work. I really like the whole website and in my eyes, the people behind fieldarcher.org are doing the archery community a big favour! Please keep on like this!

And by the way, after the first 500 pictures of the EC in Field Archery are now available on archeryimages.net, there are now more than 20,000 pictures hosted on this website.
