Archery World Cup 2010 – 1st Stage in Porec, Croatia

ArcheryTV just uploaded a bunch of new videos on Youtube and so started the World Cup Season of 2010 online. The first stage took place in the beautiful city of Porec from 4th to 8th of May. As you are used to, there is a TV magazine produced by ArcheryTV and you are able to watch the most important matches in full length.
With the year 2010, there is quite a change in the rules of international competition: The old match system by 12 arrows has been replaced by a so called “Best out of Five” format. The competitiors are still shooting ends of three arrows each but now points are given after each end. Two points are given to the winning archer, one point each is given if the end is tied. If one competitor wins three ends in a row, the match is already over. If the score is tied after five ends, one arrow will be shot as tiebreak. The shoot-off rule has changed also because now, there is no second arrow beeing shot after a tie in the shoot-off. The first arrow counts, who is closer to the center, wins the match.
Additionally to the changes in the competition format, there is something technical: ArcherTV just started uploading some videos in 720p HDTV. The TV Magazine about the World Cup Stage in Croatia is already available in High Definition:

Archers and Tattoos

So, whats it with archers and tattoos? After so many pictures that I published here, I noticed a lot of archers like to show they bond to archery through a tattoo. It is very interesting what different types of tattoos you find. And even more interesting, what is a good part of the body to have a tattoo on for an archer?

It seems like competing in the Olympic Games is still the most important goal for quite a lot top-level archers in the world. Many of them want to perpetuate a participation in that competition by getting tattooed, that is the reason you find a lot of tattoos with relation to the Olympic Games. And where do you need to have your fancy tattoo placed? The forearm is a very nice spot if you like it to be seen while competition (especially for recurve archers).

Two examples for combining the forearm with the olympic symbol are Khatuna Lorig and Brady Ellison of USA:

Another popular place for archer’s tattoos seem to be the ankle, as proven by the following pictures:

To complete the relaunch, I recently created a Twitter account in connection to archeryimages. From now on, I will post updates about news and new picture there in addition to the posts on the site. Several new features come with this latest update:

RSS Feed

For commenting the articles, you need to type in a “captcha”. I am sorry for this, but it is absolutely necessary for avoiding spambots to attack the comment function. If you have problems reading the word, there is a “play” button right beside of it, where you are able to listen to the word.

The News System is now fully functionable, but the mainpage has now changed to http://www.archeryimages.net/index.php. You may need to update your bookmark if you saved the .html file in it.

World Championships within reach…

WC 2007 Leipzig (GER)

Just one week to go until the biggest archery event in 2007, the Outdoor Archery World Championships are held in Leipzig, Germany.
We all hope for thrilling matches and a fair competition for the title of World Champion. I will be in Leipzig personally the whole week and so there will be hopefully picture updates every day in the WC 2007 folder.
